"Kate's large and bold pictures are very mature in technique and outstanding in creativity.
Over the past fifteen years she has established a strong and steady outflow of ideas which becomes part of her statement about life."
My name is Kate Von Rock, born in Tasmania in 1978 to an artist mother and a writer father who, for reasons entirely their own,
kept me around and moulded me into a tragically bohemian soul.
Being the only one of five children that showed any inclination towards the arts and not towards capitalism,
they decided to lavish all their knowledge of the arts upon my poor self. Retaining little theory,
I propelled myself forward into the practical side of the Arts; it appeared that I was naturally gifted.
So overwhelmed by my skills at such a young age, I gladly received proffered walls that I promptly covered with murals of
outrageously bright colours and hence began my career...
I won my first art award in a local competition at 14 years old and sold my first piece the following year.
Since this time, I have consistently won awards for my work, showing commitment to quality of work and enraptured clients over a long period.
My artworks have sold just as consistently. These sales have resulted in a steady flow of
commissions and invitations to exhibit in various places throughout Australia.
Specialising in figurative interpretation and still-life interiors and, I try to capture the imagination of the viewer by presenting
them with images they can relate to. These images are for the viewer to interpret for himself or herself. I bring to the consumers a style that
is appealing to all demographics. My works are bright and cheerful, offering a positive view of life. The concepts are fresh and my style is my own.
Through my eyes, the world is all Colour, Light and Shade. It is Dancing, Breathing and Beauty.
Currently working on Nude Interpretations, I focus on the female form, exaggerating the size and shape creating provocative and sensual images.
As I observe the people around me, seeing who they are and what they choose to surround themselves, I am provided with the inspiration I
need to give back to the world a representation of itself. My artwork is a statement about life.
In the words of the great artist, Paul Gauguin "I wished to suggest by means of a simple nude, a certain long-lost barbaric luxury."

Of Kate Von Rock
I first met Kate (on tour) in North Hobart. After a memorable show at The Republic, I merrily wandered to an after party at an old Victorian home that
looked to my eyes to be inhabited by about 10 bohemian people of which she seemed to be the Queen.
I remember people dancing on top of the kitchen table and each room seemed to have its own happening with some beautifully strange people.
Wandering through this house, I came across a cradle of prints and sketches and solely began to flick through them.
In the end, I looked through all of perhaps 70 pieces of nudes, interiors, musical/life scenes and I was changed.
Art had never affected me like this moment and I found myself in the midnight hours having a profound artistic awakening.
I thought to myself, 'I have to get to know her' and find out what makes her express herself and her vision in this way.
Well I got to know her very well, I imported her to Melbourne and we got married quick!
I have now for the last 5 years stumbled around in the art world with her and got to see exactly who she is but only recently have
I really come to understand how and where her art comes from.
I asked her 'What is it that makes you do what you do?' She replied 'I just want to create beautiful things that make people happy!'
Of Kate Von Rock's art, I think that says it all.
